Proposal

For the final project, I would like to create something in p5.js simulating particles in the wind and visually satisfying that aligns with my thesis Silent Whisper. I want to make this theme keep going into a series of works in different media.

Silent Whisper is an immersive analogy of human societies to magnetic systems. It is inspired by my glacier hiking trip to Iceland. People were battered by the howling wind and snow, swaying like wild grass in the glacier, and I saw the trail of wind illustrated by volcanic ash, is compressed into the glacier layer by layer chronologically. It made me realize that there are invisible forces around us. Individual are just containers reflecting what we had been told and experienced.

I would like to consider the limited screen as a container, and create a particle system moving with a wind and react with the borders of the canvas.

Process

I went through the list of topics in the menu of matter.js, and I noticed “air friction”.

Snow is highly impacted by air friction, so I decided to try physics libraries in this project.

I start by playing with parameters on this page.

Working Progress

Start A Particle System with matter.js

After applied air friction and the drawing of the particles, it looks like snow a little bit more.
